CONTINUING EDUCATION |
| AADH is a respected organization responsible for accrediting continuing education courses for dental hygienists. These standards have been accepted by various state licensing agencies for satisfying continuing education requirements. There are 47 states and the District of Columbia that require continuing education for re-registration, 28 states require advanced sponsor approval and the remaining request course approval by an agency.
Since 1985 the American Academy of Dental Hygiene, Inc. has fulfilled this process. |
| The American Academy of Dental Hygiene, Inc. (AADH) developed standards for continuing education of the practicing hygienist. These courses are evaluated relative to content, depth, accuracy and outcome. This process has been used to approve the courses for continuing education credit and is modeled after the American Academy of Periodontist. |
| The AADH reviews the courses for many professional organizations such as the International Federation of Dental Hygiene, for the IFDH Symposium that is held every three years. The courses offered by American Dental Hygienist Association, both the Annual Meeting and the Symposium for Life long Learning. In addition the RDH Under One Roof Meeting held yearly works with AADH for review and approval. There are numerous state and regional meetings that also have the courses evaluated and approved. |
| The process for individuals and agency approval is available. |
| An agreement with the sponsors must be completed and reveiwed before approval is granted. When a sponsor applies and is approved they are then able to offer courses that the American Academy of Dental Hygiene has endorsed. |
